1985
Picture 1: Rudi K., Meine Schuppen, Hamburg - Kir 1985
Meine Schuppen were Rudi's short-lived but top-notch Pop-Punk Band after he dismantled his old band Die Knallschoten after a figth with drummer Pizza (wich lead to the disfunction of Yugoslavia, as Pizza was of Serbian descent or axcent or else). Meine Schuppen put out a wonderfull EP on their own lable, marketed by Holy War Services, and Rudi went - after seeing that the hey-days of Fun/Pop-Punk were gone for straight edge stuff - to Danmark were he lived for a long time (he is now settled in Perth, Australia!). The bass player in the back is Uli, a former member of a pre-SLIME incarnation called SCREAMER (together with Witte), the drummer Pit went to local fame in a local rock record store and strange bands only known to rock-insiders in Hamburg.
Picture 2: Fabsi, Die Mimmis, Hamburg -Kir 1985
Die Mimmis were Fabsi's long-living band after he left ZK and moved to Bremen. He still operates the famous Weser Lable and is a proud father and old, old, yes very old, punk. Allthough not being a band from Hamburg they did play so oftern here - and a lot of people allways traveled to Bremen to see them live - so that is why they are included here.
Picture 3: Channel Rats on DK-Tour 1985 (Thomas Koch (AdSW Fanzine), Rudiger Thomas (from Dsseldorf, later fame with his record label), Hobbel (Spiel 77), Goliath, Pohl (Spiel 77), Rudi K.(Meine Schuppen), Henne (Spiel 77), Billy Seidel)
Picture 4: Channel Rats Fans going crazy on DK-Tour 1985 (DK-Punks and Billy Seidel holding the "Please fuck me Channel Rats" Poster)
"We were going to Sonderborg (DK) for the 2 days "SORT JUL" (black christmas) Festival were the Channel Rats were supposed to play. The first picture is during a stop on a defunct tourist stop were we thought we could change money and else - but it was closed down. The 2nd picture was taken during the Channel Rats show and it was mainly a "sorry guys" for the Channel Rats as 2 weeks befor in Aarhus Billy Seidel did throw eggs at the Channel Rats and as the audience joined in with beer cans they allmost send the Rats off the stage. During the SORT JUL bands like LEBEN UND LEBEN LASSEN, VI, LE CRAP, DUNDERHEADS, WAR OF DESTRUCTION and several others did play" (Rudi K.)
Picture 5, 6: Die Knallschoten Promo Pics for unreleased LP (ca. 1985) (Pizza, Kajan, Biber, Rudi K., Timo and Kajan, Biber, Timo, Rudi K., Pizza - note the baseball bat)
This was the short-lived 5 person line up of Die Knallschoten just prior to the departure of Rudi K. into Meine Schuppen and of Kajan into somewhere (see 1986 for details).
Picture 7: Die Knallschoten Poster Pics for last Funzine Eddition (ca. 1985) Biber, Timo, Rudi K.,Kajan and Pizza)
This picture dates from the time where Rudi K. and Kajan left Die Knallschoten - you can allready see Rudi K. and Pizza looking into differfent directions.
Picture 8: Channel Rats Promo shots for Split-LP w/ R.A.F.Gier (Pizza (d), Stickel (g), Bodo (b), Beyer (v)) - Picture 9: Stickel w/ Mustache (army times!)
This nice little shot was made by Uli Rehberg of "Unterm Durchschnitt" who also took on board the legacy of Konnekschen (the lable founded by Robert Nitz in the end of the 70tees that put out all the great early punk from Hamburg) after the death of Robert. The Split Lp of Channel Rats & R.A.F.Gier was the only Konnekschen Release after Roberts death.
Picture 10: Torpedo Moskau, Live JUZ Korachstrasse, ca. 1985 (Votzer (v), Witte (g))
This was a show with Torpedo Moskau (HH), Negazione (I), Zero Boys (US) set up by Jrgen Goldschmitt (of later Bitzcore fame) at the small youth center in Lohbrgge called "JUZ Korachstrasse". A lot of small shows were set up there, e.g. HH-Milch played there with the legendary NL-Skins NV Le Anderen or Diejenigen (HH) with the Subhumans (UK) and and and. It was a great place, but way out of town in an area then and now well known for right wing people & activists.
Picture 11& 12: HH-Milch (Ramones support at Ernst Merk Halle), Hamburg, 1985 (Hardy, Christian, Volli, Pepe, Thorsten)
This was the begining of the end for HH-Milch so to say - after 4 years playing around Hamburg (and a few shows outside of Hamburg) they had the chance to start a show for the mighty Ramones - they did and quit. Legend has it that 2nd singer Thorsten was only allowed to join HH-Milch (he came from Fixe Jungs) as he had excellent connections to the local promoter that did run this show. But, hey, if you got a chance to play a support for the Ramones - you would do the same. Great stuff around this show: Ramones staying in the hotel and the roadies making the sound check (and they did actualy play Ramones songs), Hanno (guitarist of Terristleri) taping an unplugged Ramones warm-up backstage without getting caught and of course after the show Arturo Vega (then Ramones road manager, today custodian of www.officialramones.com) sorting out babes for the roadies. Excellent catering backstage - we managed to steal most of the Ramones peanut butter. And - not to forget - the Ramones ariving in new clothes from the Hotel and changing backstage into rippedþ jeans and lether jackets. But, it all rock'n'roll and we like it!
Picture 13: Teröristleri, Rehersal room 1985 (Bert, Hartl, Martin, Big E, Jan) - Self Shave Skins united!
Teröristleri where a long living fun vehicle for some of the Holy War crew back than - only played a few shows, did record only few songs and where basiclay a reason for going down to the basement and drink. Besides that, some nice sing-a-long songs were created. They ceased to exist in 1988 when "work" and "income" did demand more time (and more and more).
Picture 14: Dirk (Holy War Fanzine) and Rudi (Funzine) at an unknown show, 1985
"Some concert snapshot , but who the hell knows who`s playing ?" (Minus)
Above: The Newtown Neurotics graced Hamburg at the infamous Onkel Pö on 20.10.1985, above a strain of pictures from that show - restored in 2015.
Picture 15: Ticket for the Public Enemy 23 (ex-Platzangst) show at the Logo, 06.08.1985
Picture 16: Ticket for the Sweet show at the Markthalle, 16.04.1985
This was the real
deal with Brian Connolly - and the Glam revival was first championed in the
punk scene befor it moved into mainstream later. I can assure you that this
was a killer show!
Picture 17/18: Stauber (ex-Platzangst),
Peer Sommerfeld (aka Zelt)- on the streets of Hamburg
The story has been told earlier on these pages - Zelt went on to become an infamous junkie. Anyone knowing his whereabouts?
Picture 19: Stauber (ex-Platzangst) and Channel Rats
(Stickel, Bodo, Pizza) in Denmark
In front of the recording studio where the Channel Rats recorded for the compilation Sauerkraut + Smörebröd".
